Marcus I just read you post. Man life can throw a few curves now and again. I have a 6 HP air cooled Petter engine that runs pretty smooth @ 1800. It's rated 6 HP @ 1000. Im not sure what it would cost for shipping to your place. If you would like to pay shipping you are welcome to use it. I don't think there should be any problem. I guess if something happens then it would have probably happened to me also. Im not using it so think about it. When you are up and running again you can send it back. No hurry. Mike, DD  PS before anyone ask because it seems to be the concern when I do something. THERE IS NO MOTIVE.

Yea I think for any reason if they are going to start that engine there should be a safty pannel just to remind them how close is safe. I would guess if someone got tangled up in that flywheel the engine would not even notice. There would be at least 2 or 3 pieces left. Mike DD

So it looks as if there is any concern with the purchase of these that should be put to rest. I will locate an escrow agent to hold the money until the engines have landed. Now payment for the remainder of the engine will be required before the engine will be shipped. If you wish you can come to Dodge City to inspect the engine befor final payment but it will need to be soon after rhey have landed. Mike

There has beeen quite a discussion about these going on I thought I would pass on here what the sellers will probably be offering towards the sale of these engines

Tim,                                                                                                                                                                              you have aired what I consider to be a problem regarding this venture also another of which I was unaware,  now its my wish to realise the best price possible for Petes and my engines and expecting buyers to send monies on trust to someone they only know of through a forum may prevent this, converslely it would be unwise of me to pay to send engines out to people I only know of through the forum and my collective risk would far outweigh any buyers individual risk.
A way around this would be some kind of bond comprising of a percentage of the total cost, held by someone who is beyond reproach and only payable to me when the container seals are broken and the contents verified.

The fact is that its impossible to to run this kind of venture and keep everyone happy and am sure that if I was to say that an engine had a snapped con rod then someone would opine that it was far more broken than that.

Mark.

I wish you the best of luck and agree that this could make a group of people very happy to own an original Lister.  Although I still don't understand your motivation....
Tim you answered you own question. It has always been my goal with my venture and this venture to make it possible for allot of people to own a Lister.

Mark as for the paperwork I will take care of this part for you. After all sales are final the buyers can email me because I will need their addresses and I will fill it out then air mail it to you so it can go in the container like a manifest, this is what we are doing. The code Tim speaks of states these engines are for agriculture use. We decided it might be a little far fetched for the custom agents to believe.

Mark we have something over here known as escrow agents. This is what the money could be placed in and it will be secure. If you would like I could see if my bank would do this then in the end all of the money could be wired to you at a lesser rate than pay pal. This is just not worth it for a couple thousand dollars. Keep me informed of what you need me to do. Mike

Mark I checked with my bank and I will have to find an escrow agent. They are not part of a bank. I will work on that next week to see what expenses are. My banker said it is charged on each transaction. I think that means each time they send money out. So it would only be once. Mike

Mike.
Thanks for that.
Assuming these escrow agents are bona fide then it sounds as though this could be the way forward and help assuage the doubts of prospective bidders.    Its always better to build trust slowly but thats impossible in this situation and the success of this venture will depend upon everyone being satisfied with their purchase and us being satisfied with our $ return on our outlay.
Anyways enough talk I have some serious engine filming to do.

Mark.

Ok well I have been talking to Mark W about this lot of engines and we came up with a very good idea that would be great for anyone wanting to purchase one of the engines in question. It might not be a good solution for someone wanting to buy and resell them but I guess getting these engines over here is the most important thing. Now first I really hope this will not affect the container I have been working on and so many people are depending on to get thier engines. Also I in no way will recieve any compensation for anything the sellers may make on the sale. I mentioned sellers because there are now two people intrested in providing engines and there might even be 2 twins.
Here is how it is going to be set up. Mark Wilkiinson and Pete and possibly Ade will get some still shots and a video of all of the engines that are to be sold with serial numbers listed to keep make sure the right engine goes to the right buyer. The auction will be sealed bid and after a given time frame the bids will be open and the buyers will be notified. The buyers will be responsible in sending the money to Mark or Pete and pay pal seems to be the best I have found for small 1 time purchases like this. Then the seller will contract a container to ship the engines to Dodge City where I will assist the buyers in getting the engines shipped to them at the buyers expense. This will be just like buying off of eBay. Now if you are already involved in the container shipment it will not have any advantage to want to add them to the container since this group of engines will probably be shipped sooner since there are quite a few people involved in the first container are getting engines from Mark Le Ritche and it will not ship until everyone has their engines. I will need to check with the forum just to make sure it will be OK to do something like this and I would think the sellers might make a small donation for using this forum. I will post more in the near furture after I make sure the forum is OK with this. Mike DD

It sounds like you had fun, much more than a fun Saturday afternoon drive. Just an FYI the CD's and CE are SOLD. There is a buyer looking at some of the FR's. What did you think of Mark's power supply? He told me the story of that engine and how it was destined to scrap a short time ago. This was what has driven me to this venture. Protect the Listers that may have been destined to the smelter. Hopefully with American buyers wanting these the old engines they will have a second chance at life. When this load is complete I hope to start a second load. Mark Le Ritche has been redoing SOM units and was able to locate the original manfactures of the componets making up the SOM units. These should last a good many years. We are already working on something that will change the output of these machines into usable energy in the US. Mike DD

Ade Blackpool  was the only place I could think of because I had a friend there. I come from an area in the US that is use to horzonital snow. Thanks for looking at the engines this weekend. I bet it will be like a kid in a candy store going to Marks place. Hope your check book is full. Im glad to see you wont mind coming to Blackpool because I think I will need all the help I can get. I hope to have 1 night I will be able to experience the nicer things of life while I am there. Like real BEER. Not the water downed stuff we have here. Mike DD

Mark this is very nice. It seem you have spent quite a bit of time on this. It's to bad these are not welcome in the US. I called Pace and left the engine prices on your answering machine. I don't see those being an option over here for a long time. Anyway stay well. I will drop a line soon. It sounds like Mark L R will be picking up those engines soon. The container is coming together and I can't wait to get the CD's I bought from you. Mike

It's the auctions with free drinks and poo-poos you have to be careful at.  Cute costumes on the servers does not make the deal any sweeter the next day.

Casey

Casey I can assure you that this was not a problem here. You even had to pay for the water. LOL I don't do many auctions because I could easily spend way more than what I need to. I went just to meet friends. In fact when I called my wife from the hotel room and told her about all of the iron her remark was "You promiced you were not going to buy anyrhing. That is why you took the bike." Playdiesel was sitting right beside when the conservation was going on. Now Scott a friend from Chicago bought a pallett of VA parts which someone should have looked at better. The complete engine was there so for a few hundred bucks more he will have a new 8/1 or if he can find a head a new VA. I already have a buyer in the UK looking for a head and the shipping might be free because the guy from LA that went over last weekend to pick up 3 engines has not been shipped yet. So he may have very easily got the buy of the auction.

As for the prices of the engines that is why I think auctions work the best. They will bring just what someone thinks something is worth. There is no reason the guy who bought the twin will not use it. These engines were made to work. It will just work more years than the clones and with more class. if it is fixed up right there is no reason it wont be around another 50 or 60 years. I wonder how many years a clone would last?? I need to research this water pumping system a little better. For watering my garden I use flood irrigation anyway. I have been thinking about using some sort of air starter motor for my AC when I get my SOM running. This should spin the compressor to take away the load of the start up. So I would need an air supply around for that reason. I guess if it pumped water also it would be a plus. DD

Casey I have been think about the gas hot water idea. The negative side is how much heat would you get from the exhaust going up the center. I think I am going to build a base that a hot water tank will sit in then blow the exhaust into the base. It will heat the bottom of the tank and up the center. As for cleaning I would suppose a good wash down on a regular basis down the center should just about keep it pretty clean. You could just remove the exhaust pipe and let the water run out there. I havent tried it yet so I suppose there could be some bugs in that idea. If everything was hot when washing it would be close to steam cleaning. DD

Square Bob if you have not already thought of it. Hockey pucks work real good for starter wheels. Very cheap also. Just an FYI. I will share  from experience you want whatever you use for friction to be as close to the starter as possible. Lots of torque way out on the shaft. I did the same thing and now I am building a support which helps support the end of the starter shaft. DD
