another thought

interestingly there is the intermediate cooler that is used to removed the heat and condense the alcohol
for the evaporator,

there is no reason that it has to be an alcohol to air heat exchanger,

understandably it needs to be so for simplicity for their intended purpose but
there is no reason a simple tube in tube, alcohol to water heat exchanger couldn't be used
or one of those nice stainless multi plate exchangers.

the heat recovered could be used for a double effect chiller which would increase efficiency, or
it could be used to drive a smaller chiller for refrigeration, or
it could be used to drive a domestic hot water tank

all of which would dramatically increase overall efficiency.

looks like a safe and sane absorption system that could be adapted to a cogen opening a wider opportunity
for operation in warm and hot months where a chiller could provide some space cooling.

much safer than ammonia, and doesn't require a license to build, and
if it doesn't work??  what a party!

how much better does it get, charcoal for the barby, and everclear to make drinks with!

building a small scale unit for an ice would surely provide proof of concept, and i wonder if the university would
be helpful in making the necessary calc's to adapt the concept to use with a cogen heat source rather than the sun.

Thanks for digging this up. My interest in absortion units has always been stifled by the hassle of using ammonia. This does indeed open up other options.
