Quote from: vdubnut62 on October 15, 2023, 02:19:03 PMDon't get your hopes up for rural Tennessee. I had 28 acres of unimproved land in the middle of nowhere
Tennessee. As I am getting too old to start too many new projects, I offered it to one of the local Mennonites for $229k and he offered me $125K.
Long story short, I hired a realtor and he got $340K for land I could have bought 30 years ago for $600
an acre.
    The world has gone crazy

Sounds like your land prices are not far from ours. I own 53 acres tgat I bought for $35,000 a out 38 years ago, tillable farm ground. Recent selling prices here are averaging $20,000 per acre for large parcels of tillabke land and 2-3 acre buildable lots are fetching just about whatever is asked.

Central Ohio is in an Intel frenzy with many millions being spent on a new chip factory. Land prices have doubled, at least, in 3 years and certain large parcels of tillable land have sold extremely high due to farmers who owned where they are building the chip factory having pockets full of money to spend. Building lots are at an absolute premium here as crop farming has been so good that virtually nobody wants to sell of frontage and have to deal with new neighbors. I get unsolicited offers to purchase our farmland 2-3 times a month and people actualy drive around and stop to ask people how much they want for thier country homes.

As for transactions being screwed up that seems to be part of the times, incompatance combined with greed. 7 years ago we entered a contract to purchase a farmstead and a few acres. Cash offer no contingencies. We also listed 4 other properties for sale that we owned free and clear. After we entered into contract another buyer attempted to purchase the farmstead at a much higher price. It soon became obvious that people were dragging thier feet to have a closing. We had 30 days to close or contract was cancelled. I had my lawyer send registered letters to both realestate agents, the title agency and the seller stating that if they continued to drag their feet until my contractual period ran out that all of them would be involved in a lawsuit. Suddenly we had closing scheduled,,, slime balls.

The best of function and appearance is expected of your projects Veggie.

I just finished moving my 1115 set to a new location further away from the house. Closest neighbor is a mile away but must keep wife happy too! Can't hear it run now and its sitting on 1 1/2 yards of concrete but it still pounds the ground enough that we know its running.

Yes, all the Power Service additives are A1. I ad to my bulk tank at every delivery

Yes I own an injector setter and stand by my earlier statement. One can screw around with things he shouldn't and get away with it,, for a short while. I keep Lister CS pump cam lobes and lifters in stock for the guys that indiscriminatly crank up injector pop off pressures while playing with high viscosity waste fuels.
If there is anyone around who has run high viscosity oils either new or reclaimed over a long period of time Im not aware of them. Lots if experimenters, hype and speculation but no long-term users. All successful WMO or WVO users that I am aware of thin the oils, either via heat or by blending but admittedly my knowledge is limited to shop customers and what I read here or on LEF.

Just another of 1000s of clueless people playing expert on YouTube No matter the subject.
An experianced person can get the injector pop off pressure close by eye and ear when on a test stand and then open the gauge port to set it right. Like any other engine spec there are good reasons for the manufacturer to place pop off at a certain pressure and it certainly cannot be done on a engine, running or not.

Yes the L48 is the baby sized L series Yanmar and the China clone is the LA170F about 4HP at 3600.
The 186 is the L100 clone which is twice the displacement and HP.
I have a brand new in box electric start L48 Yanmar that is for sale, PM if interested.

I am buried in generators or I would own that unit only because of who it belonged to.
Although I never met or even talked to the man it was obvious that Quinn was one of very few that early on understood the real problems with the India produced Lister clones. Everyone knew there were problems but few knew what to do about it. Some had tried and published work arounds for the issues that quite honestly were just sugar coatings over turds. Quinn however worked to solve the obvious(to an engine mechanic) issues in a permanant manner. He inspired me and a couple others to carry on with it and develope a few more solutions.
It is a shame that all the work is mostly all for not as we have batteries, wind and solar being shoved down our throats via regulation and substitutes.

The one on my 1115 does not produce much, maybe 3-4 amps? It won't keep up with the automotive fan on the radiator and I have to keep a charger on the battery while running.

Value will depend on the mountings. Most, but not all of the direct mounted heads use SAE bellhousings. If so the head can easily be adapted to another engine, if not the its about scrap value in my experience

Glad yout getting back on your feet. I have 4 buddies that married a nut case first time around, 3 are doing OK, one will likely never fully recover financially. Me, I lucked out and got a keeper the first go around 40 years ago come December.

The only one own that has that set up is an R180 that I run a saw with and it does over cool the engine at least in my loadings. My redneck fix was to cover part of the radiator. My stand by set has a 1115 and I made a plate. The first version was 3/8 and I had to increase it to 1/2 so it was ridged enough to stay sealed on top of the block. I agree with Tom that there is zero need fir a thermostat with the plate if the circulation is via thermosyphon. My engine warms quickly and doesn't circulate until hot. I have a sender in the plate that controls the 12V fan. By the way the alternator installed behind the flywheel will not keep up with the amps the fan uses. I just use a battery charger to keep the battery up while running. Seemed easier than mounting a 10SI?

I believe that would be the rack limiter stop, sometimes called the smoke screw. As I remember turning the screw in woukd reduce full rack smoke, out would do the opposite. Both of my 1115 engines have them.

I confess to not listening to the entire video but I do own almost the entire range or R series diesels from various manufactures and R165 to 1115. The variations in quality are large, very large.

There is not a doubt in my mind that if a prospective buyer shops long enough for the cheapest Chinese diesel engine of a given type, and then proceeds to squeeze the seller on price that his price offer will be met,,,,
and when engine arrives the cylinder block be made of paper with a plastic crankshaft and a wood piston.  ;)

My Changfa R180 has more hours than any otber diesel I own and has been totally reliable in every respect. On the other hand my R165 was built by some xyz Bicycle Company (no kidding!) and looks like  a cheap toy.  It runs but Id bet on a short lifespan. Now, for big time quality the Lai Dong 1115 takes a back seat to no other engine from anywhere.

Also in that video it sounds like the engine is running balls to the wall. Totally unrealistic to think its going to last forever at that RPM,, in my opinion.

Why that thing can't be efficient! it has a V belt drive ;)
