I have just put the gen head back on my Petter find and can use some help.On start up I had to flash the field it now starts putting out fine but with a max of 101-202 volts at 60 hz.Is there a simple fix or does this mean that I have a bad field winding and should just give up. :'(

      Thanks Potter

Automotive alternators / electronic field controller
October 27, 2010, 07:32:44 PM
Hi anyone familiar with the field controller version 8.3 in Home Power mag august 94. I have a 95 amp motorcraft alternator that I have belted to my Lister SR 1 (1.9 HP).I have had to bypass the regulator in order not to stall the engine with full output, by using a rheostat but with my age and memory do not trust myself to babysit this :-[
I am hoping this will solve my problem it looks as if you can adjust the max amps out and that it will cut back on the charge rate when the batteries are full. I am not much on electronics but I think I can handle this with less than a 30 pc. part count Appreciate any info or if anyone knows of a better circuit it would be appreciated.

I had a call on Wednesday and was told if I wanted a Lister id have to remove it by Saturday. You guessed it by Thursday its mine,as you can see in the pics the top end had been pulled open but there was a large cooler that came with it full of new Lister parts .It has everything to replace top end new except the cylinder which has been bored out and a liner inserted. This find came from feelers that I put out almost  two years ago,and when I was unloading  this one from the boat a
friend came up and said he has a contact for another if I want.

General Discussion / Odd power?
November 21, 2009, 11:42:45 AM
I had a power cut last night and ran my gen for the night, this morning switched over and shut down the gen. When i got back inside from shutting down i noticed my UPS was beeping not excepting line power so i got my kill-a-watt out to see what i figured might be low voltage (common on the island especially after a power cut). But the volt reading was 127.3 so shifted to hz 59.9 all normal but UPS still beeping.I played around with this for almost an hour before giving up and disconnecting and running computer without the UPS.
After lunch i tried plugging in the UPS again all is well  ??? ???  any ideas.I have run this system now with no changes for over 200 hrs with no problems.

ST and STC generators / The horrible groan
November 15, 2009, 01:51:51 PM
Do many run their ST heads at 220 ? . When I first received my head I tried it on 220 but with the slightest unbalance it would object loudly, so I went 110 with no problems but now have just gone 220 on my cloths dryer and would like to use the gen on wash days.
I have no objection to the loud groan if it is doing no harm, but it sounds as if it is loading the bearings or in some way doing damage :'(.
Has anyone used their head like this and had no problems or is this a bad idea.

   thanks Staggley
