Just found this and am in no way promoting it. Just looked like something the group might like to check out.

Moderator might have to modify this as when the kickstarter campaign is over the link might fail.

Well not really......

Has anyone here heard of the metal Nitinol?

Seams it is an alloy of nickel and titanium.

Was loitering through youtube and ran onto an old news clip that caught my eye.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoAFc_DeWVQ

Seams as back quite a few years ago people had figured out how to use this stuff to make power from low grade heat.

Wounder why we don't see anything like was in the news clip in use?

Here is a second clip about the nitinol metal.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7jjqXh7bB4

General Discussion / Waterless coolants.
March 20, 2011, 09:06:20 PM
guys

Anyone here tried to use something other than water in a diesel or other engine for coolant?

Some years ago I read an article about using a waterless coolant and reverse coolant flow to try and improve engine efficiency.

Ran onto another article about waterless coolants and a company selling it   http://www.evanscooling.com/.

This winter as I worked with my 10/1 and 16/1 roids I thought about trying reverse flow and a higher temp thermostat. But the highest temp thermostat I could find was 221 degrees F and it cost 85$ and would have required a complete different housing than the 205 F thermo I am using. So being the thermo was that expensive I dropped that Idea.

By the way the article about the waterless coolant says the stuff costs about 40 to 43 $ per gallon :o

Was thinking if my 16/1 was running at 230 to 240 f it might burn that WMO better with less injector fowling!

Comments anyone?

Guys

Here is a pix of the beginning.

Direct injected  aluminum piston just under 5.125 inches in diameter and about 6.375 stroke approx.

Now back to the shop for more measurements this time I will write them down. ;D

Guys

Well today less than 2 hours ago I fear I must report my 10/1 suffered a heart attack.

Well actually it was a camshaft failure. :o :o

Pending autopsy is thought will reveal excessive injector (pressures brought on by it's owner's feeble minded attempts to get the damn thing to better burn WMO) caused the end of the camshaft that the injector lobe is pinned to to snap off. >:(

Oh well at least it made it to 1775 hours burning WMO.......................

Please no flowers just send memorials.  ;D ;D

General Discussion / Diesels at play........?

Guys

This is worth watching, might be worth a laugh.

Has nothing to do with CHP but it does have the diesels as smoke belching ..........................

Bio-Diesel / Plastic to oil
January 25, 2010, 06:02:27 AM
Guys

Found this clip on u-tube      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtzYFdyybUI
It is not about bio diesel but it is another fuel, thought some on here might find it interesting!

The guy claims it is made of waste plastic. I bet the process he uses to turn the plastic back to some kind of oil would not be EPA approved :(
