I was planning on running the engine at 2600 RPM I figured around 4500 watts. Bob your calculations are very good.

I am getting ready to start my new project. The engine will be the CATERPILLAR Model C0.5 two cylinder in-line diesel engine running two Leece-Neville 110-555JHO 12/14 Volt 160 Amps Alternators. I believe this will be a fun project. This unit should be very compact when completed.
I welcome your input guys.

Hello panaceabeachbum,

Good to see you. I'm glad you were able to post some of the pictures you had on the other forum. I remember you had posts on making housings an some other stuff. If you can try to post the other stuff.

If you can contact any of the other Cat/Perkins owners let them know about microcogen.info. We would be glad to have them aboard.

I am hoping to start my New co-gen project with the Cat engine sometime in the fall or winter. I can't wait to start.

I agree with Bob that Changfa assembly quality is better than some others.

Bob is also correct about the S195 IDI head gaskets. So far my S195 DI head gasket is holding up fine. But from what I understand the IDI and DI Head Gaskets are differant.

Pull the timing cover off and check all fasteners on the governer and counter ballance shafts. If there is any question of quality replace them all with higher grade 10-9 or 12-9 fasteners. This should not cost you more than $6.00. Use 242 Loctite when reassembling. make sure parts are clean. If possable purchase Loctite 7649 spray primer to speed up cure time. This will speed set up time in 15 Min. Make sure all gears are timed properly before reinstalling the timing cover. Torque all fasteners to spec.

Make sure you have prime to the oil pump before you start up the engine. A simple way is to crank over the engine without starting it and watch to see if the red oil indicator moves up. If not the pump has to be primed.

If you have an alternator on the flywheel I would pull the flywheel and check all the alternator fasteners in the same manor listed above.

Follow the work listed above you should have a reliable engine that will give good service for years.

Little prep work can save you lots of time, money and headaches.

General Discussion / How to attach pictures.
September 21, 2009, 08:22:13 PM
This form is great. Attaching pictures is easy!! 8)

Here are some simple steps:

1.  After your finished writing look down at the bottom left corner you will see a plus sign in a box. Next to the box it says Additional Options.

2.  Click on the box with the plus sign or on the words Additional Options you will see the plus change to a minus.

3.  You will also see the additional options drop down. One of the additional options you will see in bold letters is the word Attach.

4.  Look to the right and you will see a tab that says Browse. Klick on Browse and your pictures in My Documents or My Pictures open up. Choose your picture.

5.  Once you have the picture listed click on the tab that says post and the picture should be attached to your post.

6.  Note: You are allowed to attach four pictures at one time. Just click on the words more attachments to the right of the Browse tab. Every time you click on more attachments another place will open for another attachment up to a total of four.

Another thing we need to go over is how to enlarge an attached picture. Well this is easy. Just click on the picture to enlarge it. And to shrink it just click on it again. Try it out on the picture below.

Well this is it. We are looking forward to see some great pictures of your work.
