Hi Everyone
I recently (About a week ago) needed my Generator (Isuzu C201 powered) during a power failure.

When I tried to start it, It would not start, Odd... This thing always fires right up! It was cranking fine, but would not run.
I finally got it running. and it ran fine for the outage.

Today I set out to find the problem. I checked the Glow plug resistance first. All 4 checked OK. (None Open)
Then I checked the voltage to the Glow Plugs, It was also good?

So I attempted a start, Same result's, Sounded like it was going to start, But no luck. I cranked some more and suddenly
smoke began pulsing from the No. 1 cylinder Glow Plug. It was coming from around the insulator and stud.

I pulled the plug to inspect it. It was destorted from overheating. Thats when I remembered that the last time I used the
Genny I forgot to shut off the glow plugs after starting, When I finally realized what I had done, I shut them off, But they
had been on for approx 30 minutes while running. OOPS!

When I inspected the plug I found it was cracked at the point where the pencil meets the seat surface. So I dug out one of
old ones I kept when I replaced them years ago. It tested OK so I installed it in place of the cracked one.

Tried a start, And she fired right up! :)

So I Think I will install a timer on my Glow plug circuit to prevent this in the future.

Hi All

I just purchased an old unused bottle of r12. After I received it I had this sinking feeling, How do I know if its the real thing? Can it be tested?

It's in the old style valveless tank. (Shraeder valve)

General Discussion / Pre-Cup Chamber Servicing
February 13, 2011, 06:38:07 PM
Hi Everyone

I have a question... I hope it is not out of line to post this here, Here goes.

Most here know I run various types of fuel (blended waste Oil) in an old 87' MBZ 190 TD that I have. I drive this car almost everyday. To combat my abuse of this engine I service (Pull, Clean, Reinstall) The Injector's around 4~6 month intervals. as well as early fuel filter changes.

I have never done any major work on any MBZ engine. But I know the "Pre-Cup" Chambers are removable.
What I dont know is can I remove and replace the "Pre-Cups" without removing the head? I can see that the glow plug's will need to be removed first as they pass thru the "Pre-Cup's" and also realize I will need the "Pre-Cup" Splined tool for removal.

The reason I ask is I'm curious if I might see improved performance by cleaning the entire assembly instead of just from the glow plug up.

Wind, Solar and Hydro / VAWT
January 03, 2011, 03:35:46 PM
Hey Guy's

I drive by this turbine every day going to work... It is usually spinning very fast! One day I took some pictures.  This is at a county building of some sort.... They said it was a test to prove if it was a viable design for our area. I am impressed with how low a wind can produce what appears to me to be significant rpm.

Does this look familiar to anyone?

General Discussion / Coolant Heating and Circulation
November 09, 2010, 06:54:34 PM
Recently I came up with an idea that I'm testing... So Far it works pretty good.

During the winter I always park my car MBZ 190d in the garage, block heater plugged into a timer for the morning trip to work, She starts real nice even in the very cold mornings we get here. When I get to work
She sits outside chillin! It never has failed to start, but will definetly be a little grumpy for a bit.

Sooo, I tryed putting my boat battery (Deep Cycle) in a case, in the trunk, connected to my "Coleman" 2000 watt inverter and strung an extention cord to the block heater. during the day I turn it on every  other hour or so for 15~30 minute periods (I have ordered a timer to automate it) So Far she likes it!

@ night I have been connecting my 2 amp automatic charger to the batt. So far it's always ready in the morning when I leave for work @ 6:00am.

I was thinking of Pulsing the Aux (Heater) Electric Water Pump every so often to move water around in the system to more evenly warm the engine. I dont know if this will work or not. I know others on the forum have some of these older benz's. Does anyone know if this will actually work? or will it just move water thru the heater core?

Wind, Solar and Hydro / Honeywell Mini Wind Turbines
November 04, 2010, 06:08:47 PM
Has anyone else seen the Honeywell Wind Turbines that are advertised in "Northern Tool & Equipment"

They claim decent KWH in a small footprint. It made me curious cause I live on the end of a lake and have high winds frequently. These claim to be roof mountable and have some kind of "Blade Tip" technology.

Sooo    Does anyone know anything good or bad about these?

General Discussion / 4th of july weekend

It's "Tourist Season" around here... I live on a lake... I need a license so I can thin out the heard a little.
;D
Every year.... you would think people had never seen water! Some were water skiing @ 6:00am and others
well into the darkness last night.

Maybe I should fire up my Diesel's and smoke out the rodents!  :D

I stumbled across this.... I find it very interesting. I'm sure many will see it as a controversial article.

Being the "SmartAss" that I am, I had to post it.
