Hello fellow genheads!
Well,  what else that is not degoratory do you want to be called?
Anyway I am the (proud?) owner of a Mindong single phase syncronous generator 8kw with an s1100 engine. From what I have seen so far it looks to be pretty low hours.
This thing is circa 1999 or so and it is brushless.
So... does anyone have a manual or even a link to one for this thing? I am pretty much flying blind here. The guy that I bought it from said he would "probably" find the manual and he would mail it to me, but I am not holding my breath.

Ok so to cut to the chase, I want to run a catalyst on the exhaust of my Changfoid and Listeroid diesel gennys. The idea is to raise exhaust heat and maybe clean up a little of the soot?
Will a junkyard run of the mill car catalyst work on a diesel?  Will I have to have some sort of regen cycle, yes I do know that regens are to burn out the DPF primarily.
My old Dodge had a catalyst with no DPF, so I am assuming that would work for me.
And I don't want to create a new problem with the implementation of the cat.
Just throwing this up against the wall to see what sticks.

General Discussion / hot water heating
December 17, 2017, 07:36:57 PM
Hello Gentlemen, I have never been the sharpest tool in the shed and if anyone has gotten any impression of the opposite (not very  likely), I am truly sorry!
I have been in the planning stages of my scheme for some years now, I plan to heat my home and domestic hot water with a Tarm water furnace. This particular device requires a heat storage tank.  The recommended storage is 800 gallons, but I have only managed to be able to finagle a 500 gallon propane tank that will be mounted in a vertical position as opposed to the horizontal for which it was designed. The Roid and the Changfoid will also dump cooling and exhaust heat into the system whenever they happen to be needed/running.
My question is, should I plumb my hot water feed from the furnace into the very top of the tank, or down maybe 2/3 or 3/4 ?  The heated water will be taken from the very top and circulated to the house with the coolest water to the furnace/heat exchangers(for the engines) and the return from the house from the lowest point of the tank. Is this clear as so much mud?
I welcome any and all recommendations or suggestions.

General Discussion / Happy Thanksgiving !!
November 23, 2016, 10:53:19 PM
The turkey is all trimmed up, you know loose bits of skin, the ends of the wings cropped. We call 'em turkey flippers around here. Well, that's what they look like. Flippers.
Hand rubbed inside and out with Creole seasoning and injected with Creole Butter marinade. Only half the bottle tonight though, the other half in the morning. Too much marinade at one time and it runs out before it can soak in.  It will fry very nicely! If you have never experienced Deep Fried Turkey you have missed one of life's great experiences.
My Lovely Wife has outdone herself, she has come up with a 3 layer Red Velvet Cake, the middle layer is Cheesecake!! My Daughter Kayla, is making her from scratch dark Chocolate pie and baking a ham. Her mom in law is baking another turkey.
I don't think any one in the extended families will go home hungry. And I do wish each and everyone of you could be here.

Now to everyone here (here includes EVERYONE reading this post) I want to extend a heartfelt  God Bless you all.  Take it in the spirit I meant it
I am dealing with a few personal issues that affect brain and balance among other things and so help me I am so glad to be able to say this to all of you! My typing isn't gone yet!
I feel very confident in the President elect, yes we are in for some bumpy certainly even rough times, But I am no longer making plans to bury my AR15s along with every  other thing passed to me by my Grandfathers and Father.
I feel so confident that This Forum will finally come into it's own. Bob's thankless hard work has gone for the most part unnoticed all the contributions I have made have been monetary only...... come on WE as in all of US need to help pick up a little slack.
Each and every one of you here have contributed to me. Without you all I would still be running around with suicide cords wondering why the doghouse has that funny blue aura.
Thank each and every one of you. Thank the Lord for I have been well blessed!

General Discussion / Score!! Woo Hoo!!
October 18, 2015, 06:34:34 PM

Well, after literally years of drooling, whining, crying, and tantrum throwing, the planets aligned, fate smiled, and LOOKIE what I got! ;D
A 1917-ish Fairbanks Morse Z 3hp, an 1115 Xing Dong - ST12 genset, a Tiny Tiger 700watt 12volt-120 volt generator(pics to come later) and last but not least, a 90's vintage 'roid,
NEVER STARTED!
An old "shuttle mill" or part of one also was in the mix. Evidently they were used in the textile trade to cut shuttle blocks from dogwood.
Well it's been a long drive to and from  North Carolina, it's 7:30pm and I started this morning at 2:15am.  It was worth it!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Discussion / A little information please?
December 29, 2013, 08:40:17 AM
Anyone know anything at all about the Anil brand of engine? I have never even heard of it. I asked over on the "other" forum and got nada, so I thought I would give it a whirl here.
I would like to know if it's a faithful copy for parts availability, or is it one of the more bastardized versions. If it's unique and odd, that would kill my interest. Is 2 grand out of line for an unknown (to me anyway) quantity?
The engine is about 3 or so hours away from me so I am more than casually interested.
So.....anyone??
Thanks guys, Ron.

Hi all, I have a Continental 1Y69 power unit that I want to fit with a  one bearing STC head to run 3 phase machinery in my woodworking shop (barn). Hey, it was free. :D
Its a 69 cu in  unit, 4 cylinder, flat head, hand cranked, magneto ignition, thermo-siphon cooling, I figure around 10-15 hp. It previously powered a pull type combine. It does have a removable gear reduction drive on it, and has either a SAE 4 or 5 bellhousing, I have to take the reduction off to measure it. It is a gasoline fueled outfit, but it will only run probably a couple hours a month, so I'm not too worried about fuel consumption.  I figure it was designed to run at 1800-2000 rpm, but I'm not positive about that, and I haven't been able to find any documentation that has the speed or Hp rating, so.........any ideas???

Thanks, Ron.

Gas/Propane/Natural Gas Engines / Help with a Kohler.
November 03, 2011, 10:34:31 AM
Hi all,
I may have a chance at a twin cylinder Kohler genset with a 5kw head taken out of an old motorhome.
Don't have a clue how many hours are on the thing or what kind of generator, except that it is an 1800 rpm unit.
The engine has an external full flow spin on oil filter, and a gauge is screwed into the top left rear, facing the engine from the front.
The engine model is K482EP, the spec 35243b.
The boys that stripped the old motor home were pretty rough and bent up some sheetmetal on the box on top,
but the worst part is the exhaust manifold is broken off and missing the flange to mount an exhaust pipe & muffler.

Anybody know anything about one of these? Are parts still available?

Here is a bad picture of one like it that I found online.

General Discussion / Paralleling relay
December 24, 2010, 09:27:45 PM
Any of you Gurus out there know anything about these paralleling relays? Supposedly this one is 120 volts, does that mean that it can be used
to sense  1 leg of a 240 volt system and throw a 3 pole contactor?  Or, as usual, am I  completely wrong about the whole concept?

Anybody ever hit a Hornet's nest with a stick? I figure that's what is about to happen here.
OK, what is the verdict on an induction motor as a generator? Yes I have Bill Roger's book that touches on the subject...BUT
I have found some conflicting information.

It will stop generating when the grid goes down.                   Supposedly loses excitation current?

It won't stop generating when the grid goes down.                Caps keep the core energized.

It will stop generating when overloaded.                              Why? Or is this simply Bovine scatology?

It won't stop generating when the grid goes down. Maybe.      Iron core is still magnetized?
.
It will only start a motor load 1/10 of it's generating capacity.   Why? (see Bovine remark above)

Supposedly they are very easy to grid tie. (I'm skeptical)         Nothing I ever want to do is simple.

Just what is needed to tie one to the grid?                             As in Honda's mini CHP unit, not to make a bunch of power, just slow the meter some. I already have a 12kw backup.

It' OK to tell me I have fallen out of my tree and hit my head.     I'm used to it.

General Discussion / R175N on Ebay $350
October 29, 2010, 11:33:25 AM
Might be a good deal for some one in the area. Only I would want to take it back apart to check things out.
For some reason I never did trust another feller's engine overhauls. Does that make me cynical and controlling?? ??? ???

October 24, 2010, 09:43:20 PM
Very off topic (sorry) BUT.........
Does anyone have a clue as to what happened to OWWM.org? (Old Wood Working Machinery)
OWWM.com is still up, the .org part was the forum.
The site went down and I was in negotiations with a fellow for some parts for an old Atlas lathe!!
Now I can't find out squat!

Has anyone else read this?  Now I wonder why the Mexican border is so easily crossed by Illegals when this happens to American Citizens?
Yeah, I know, everybody thinks I'm nuts.

General Discussion / Power out
June 24, 2010, 05:12:26 PM
Had a power outage here today, a thunderstorm blew trees down, took out power lines and left limbs on the lines.( It also took out my garden :'() The power died around 1:30 PM CST
but the Great Walla Walla Xing Dong rattled, vibrated, roared and made copious amounts of juice to keep the AC and lights on until the Utility guys and I got the trees cleared. The linemen thought Walla Walla was pretty cool but they were more interested in if I had the main breaker off! I can't blame them, I live around a bunch of pretty dumb people. Everything was going great until I ran out of fuel!! DOH!! I meant to check and top it off, but the linemen showed up and I got busy.
Grabbed a fuel can, pumped 5 gallons real quick, topped off the tank,  bled the lines and within 5 minutes we were back in business. All in all it worked as planned except for not being able to get the voltage down as far as I wanted. With the control turned all the way down at 60.4 hz
I still had 124 ish volts under load.
We ran for a little over 2 hours all together with success! Anyway, I'm tickled!

I have GOT to get around to building the panel for this thing and replacing the doghouse!

I have looked everywhere I can think of to find some info on this doggone regulator off my Xing Dong 1100! I'm coming up with nothing,
Can anyone please shed ANY light on this thing? I would really like some sort of wiring diagram, if possible.

Yes it is cold and yes I do have it jury-rigged with a "suicide cord" but I just couldn't wait to give it a whirl.
It was too cold to do anything else and I ain't much on footbawl.
I know better so no preachin" please. ;D

I discovered the following important details
A: that I will have a sure 'nuff real muffler PDQ. This little guy really lets you know it's got a straight pipe. ;D
B: that I will have a block off plate and a sure 'nuff real radiator PDQ.
C: in cold weather, people will stop and tell you that " Hey, did you know that your motor's really smoking out there?".
D: It works!!! ;D ;D ;D
